James Madison climbed three spots in both major college football rankings after a dominant 58-10 win over Appalachian State on Nov. 15. The Dukes now sit at No. 21 in the AP Top 25 and No. 22 in the US LBM Coaches Poll.
The victory marked JMU’s eighth straight and its largest margin ever against a Sun Belt opponent or App State in their 20-game series. The Dukes overwhelmed the Mountaineers with a 627-146 yard advantage, including a staggering 324-1 edge on the ground.
With the win, JMU secured the Sun Belt East Division crown and a berth in the conference championship. At 9-1 overall and 7-0 in league play, the Dukes are the highest-ranked Group of Six team this week, joined in the polls by North Texas and Tulane.
Since moving to the Football Bowl Subdivision in 2022, JMU has appeared in the AP Top 25 ten times. The current No. 21 ranking ties the program’s second-best mark, previously reached in November 2023, with its highest being No. 18.
The Dukes will step out of conference play on Nov. 22, hosting Washington State for Senior Day at Bridgeforth Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m.
