Harrisonburg has been awarded a $20,000 grant to help promote the city as a family-friendly travel destination. The funding, provided by the Virginia Tourism Corporation, will support the city's new marketing effort titled “Harrisonburg Happy – Family Friendly Travel.”

The campaign is focused on attracting families from nearby metro areas like Washington, D.C. and Baltimore, Maryland, highlighting Harrisonburg as an easy and affordable getaway. Marketing efforts will include social media ads, influencer partnerships, and features in Blue Ridge Outdoors Magazine.

Jennifer Bell, the city’s tourism manager, says the campaign taps into what families are looking for: quality time together without spending a fortune. She notes that Downtown Harrisonburg offers local shops, family-run restaurants, public art, and free activities like the duckling tour and mural walk. With the added bonus of nearby hiking and outdoor adventures, Bell says Harrisonburg is the perfect spot for a laid-back, family-centered vacation.
