Police Drone Locates Blind Man Missing In The Woods For 33 Hours

Police officers in Connecticut used a drone to locate a 62-year-old blind man who had been missing for 33 hours. Richard Doty was reported missing by his brother after not hearing from him the night before.

Officers from Enfield Police Department began searching for Doty and borrowed a drone from the police in neighboring Vernon. Within 30 minutes, the drone located Doty at the bottom of an embankment, roughly 100 yards into the woods.

When officers located Doty, he explained that he became disoriented and got lost in the woods near his home. He said that he spent the night sleeping outside, where the temperature dropped to nine degrees Fahrenheit.

The department shared a video of the drone rescue on Facebook.

"Due to the temperature, there was concern about hypothermia, and it was clear that time was of the essence for a successful outcome," the Enfield Police Department said.

Doty was taken to a local hospital for treatment, but authorities did not reveal any information about his condition.
