California Woman Charged After Son Found Tied Up In Burning Home

A California woman is under arrest after police found her three-year-old son tied up with a plastic bag over his head inside a burning home. Authorities responded to a call of a structure fire and found the young boy inside with his hands bound together.

Firefighters also found the boy's mother, Maricela Magana Ruiz, 47, in her bedroom with her legs tied together. Ruiz and her son were taken to the hospital where they received treatment for smoke inhalation.

Police believe Ruiz tied up the boy and placed the bag over his head, and she was taken into custody on suspicion of child endangerment. Ruiz attempted to post bail, but after arson investigators found evidence that the fire was intentionally started, her bail was raised to $500,000, and she remains in custody.

Police are still trying to determine a motive for her actions. They are looking into the possibility that it was related to a domestic issue over the custody of her children.
