SHENANDOAH VALLEY ROADS HAZARDOUS TUESDAY MORNING

 

STAUNTON – (4 a.m.) A late winter storm is creating hazardous road conditions in many parts of the Shenandoah Valley Tuesday morning, and the Virginia Department of Transportation asks motorists to avoid unnecessary travel.

 

The VDOT Staunton District has 1,200 pieces of equipment deployed to clear snow throughout the counties of Frederick, Shenandoah, Clarke, Warren, Page, Rockingham, Augusta, Highland, Rockbridge, Alleghany and Bath. VDOT crews and contractors have been treating and plowing roadways since Monday afternoon, and continue to work 12-hour shifts until all roads are clear.

 

Here are the road conditions as of 4 a.m. Tuesday:

 

Interstate 64 – Moderate conditions in Augusta County. Minor conditions in Alleghany County. Clear conditions in Rockbridge County.

 

Interstate 66 – Moderate conditions in Warren County.

 

Interstate 81 – Moderate conditions in Augusta, Rockingham, Shenandoah and Frederick counties. Clear conditions in Rockbridge County.

 

Primary roads – Moderate conditions in Augusta, Rockingham, Page, Frederick and Warren counties. Moderate to minor conditions in Shenandoah County. Minor conditions in Alleghany, Bath, Highland and Clarke counties. Clear conditions in Rockbridge County.

 

Secondary roads – Moderate conditions in Augusta, Rockingham, Page, Shenandoah, Frederick and Warren counties. Minor conditions in Alleghany, Bath, Highland and Clarke counties. Clear conditions in Rockbridge County.
