September is Hunger Action Month, and this year, the Blue Ridge Area Food Bank is holding a two-week food drive called "Spread the Love Peanut Butter and Jelly Drive". It starts on September 12 and goes through September 26 at Martin's stores in Harrisonburg, Staunton and Waynesboro. Locations will also be available in Culpeper and at Giant Foods in Charlottesville.
The focus for this year's drive is on childhood hunger. Now that kids are back in school, they need healthy food to fuel their performance. You can help kids struggling with hunger by providing two staples they enjoy: peanut butter and jelly.
Nearly 43,000 children in the BRAFB service area are food-insecure. That's one in eight children in central and western Virginia. The food bank wants to collect enough donations to help the thousands of children it serves each month have delicious, protein-packed meals.
Martin's stores will have BRAFB barrels out to collect donations.
