For Immediate Release – Fire at Staunton Public Library

Monday, March 24, 2014

Staunton, Virginia – March 24, 2014 – A small electrical fire occurred today in a computer room at the Staunton Public Library, located at 1 Churchville Avenue. All patrons and employees have been safely evacuated from the building. The library will be closed for the remainder of the day.

According to the city’s fire and rescue department, the fire resulted from a power surge experienced this morning in the western part of the city. Damage to the building appears to be limited to smoke, but city staff will assess the building electrical system to be certain there is no damage to it.

It is anticipated the library will reopen sometime tomorrow, Tuesday, March 25, but patrons are encouraged to call the library at (540) 332-3902, to obtain further information about the library’s hours.
